iOS 4.3 Tethering
iOS 4.3 Tethering - I am terribly excited concerning the iOS 4.3 update as a result of currently it permits me to tether threeG net from my iPhone to my iPad via Wireless! Previously with iOS 4.2 this wasn’t attainable (iOS 4.2 was solely attainable on jailbroken handsets). This spells that there’s no want for a 3G iPad if you own an iPhone. And since i’m excited, i’m doing a post on the way to tether net using Personal Hotspot, the new feature with iOS 4.3.
iOS 4.3 Tethering Your iPhone
When Verizon unveiled its iPhone launch a couple of days back, it mentioned the personal hotspot as a iOS feature, but AT&T users shouldn’t worry, as it is being rolled out to all iPhones and iPads in the next update of iOS 4.3. This has just been released to developers and includes a range of features for Apple’s mobile range.
The iOS feature, long asked for by users, will allow other devices to connect to your phone and use the cell signal for Internet access of other systems. The practical uses of this aren’t that widespread in the age of rampant mobile broadband use. However, if your home broadband dies, or a router fails, it can provide a useful backup until the cavalry arrives.
How to Tethering iPad on iOS 4.3
In your Settings menu, you should see the new iOS feature, Personal Hotspot. It is toggled OFF by default. Press it to go to its interface.
Toggle the Personal Hotspot ON, and enter a password (highly recommended to prevent leachers). The password has to be 8 characters and above.
Next, go to the WiFi setting of your iPad or laptop.
Similarly, toggle WiFi ON. In the available networks you should see your iPhone. If you are connecting for the first time, it will prompt you for the password, and store the password for subsequent connections.
On the lockscreen you can see information about your Personal Hotspot, in this case, I connected my iPad and there’s “One Connection”.
Simple as that ! This is immensely useful if you don’t have a 3G plan, and if you are in a place without free WiFi. I love new iOS feature that allows me to share my 3G data plan between devices !
